#2: What Is Web 2.0?

I've been fascinated with 2.0 technologies since they've emerged. I'm a younger librarian (24 y/o), so these applications have seemed very natural to me. I'm very used to always being 'plugged in' and I sift through hundreds (sometimes thousands) of blog postings (via an RSS reader) every day. I check my e-mail very often, and when I'm away, I sometimes feel like I'm in withdrawal. I was one of the first wave of college students to get a Facebook profile (April of 2004), and I have accounts on many other 2.0 applications, some getting more use than others (MySpace, Flickr, Delicious, LibraryThing, Twitter, etc.,). While I was working at USF, I started to try to merge the library world with the 2.0 world, creating accounts and hoping to connect to our students, but it never quite took off. I'm not sure if it was because it wasn't well-publicized, or if the polite hands-off approach from many other library staffers doomed it, but I'd like to be able to see how to create a successful 2.0 model in a library and see it embraced by staff and patrons.
