#22: Staying Current

Whoo, coming down the home stretch! I've had to go on a mini-blogging marathon because we've been inundated with bibliographic instruction classes (which is good because that means the faculty are seeing the importance of what we do!) and blogging time had been too scarce. But I was determined to catch up by the deadline and I think I should make it!

I really think that while I was already pretty savvy to 2.0 technologies, I've had my sphere broadened. I tended to stay within the 'big names' and overlook the smaller startups that haven't yet made it big. I've also really learned a lot about my attitudes and preconceptions by having to take the time to really think about certain services. It's been a little fun, and I have definitely been more verbose that I thought I would be! Additionally, I use most of these services on a personal level, so it's been great to try to think of ways my library can utilize them and connect with students.

I am definitely keeping up my wiki, and I'm more inspired to update more regularly, instead of letting months go by. I do think I need to scale back on the number of blogs I read and really focus on the most essential ones. I'm too overwhelmed, and it takes too long to go through them. Considering that I just skim most of the posts, it should be fairly easy to ditch a few of them that I never really open (I say fairly because I have an insatiable appetite to know things and to always be on the forefront of knowledge--something many librarians share. It will be difficult to let go of the blogs that might let me know things!). But I find my Google Reader to be the absolute best way I know of keeping up with things.

I also will try my best to update this blog, but given how stressful it was to keep it up through these last few months (every one of the three other librarians at my library dropped out before Thing 4!), I'm worried it won't be as frequently as I would like. Maybe I can see about creating a blog for our library and try to commit to that one.
